On Saturday October 28 (9am-4pm) we will be hosting “Family of Faith”, a full day family conference here at Gentle Shepherd Community Church in Eugenia.
The seminar topics will be primarily focused for parents of school-aged children (4-18), however the topics will be relevant to parents and children of all ages. All are welcome.
Dr. Rev. Ann Gillies will be speaking on Family of Healing. Ann is an ordained pastor as well as a psychotherapist. She holds a doctorate of philosophy in professional counselling and is an adjunct professor at Emmanuel Bible College, and serves as support clergy at Gentle Shepherd. She is the author of two books, Deep Impact and Closing the Floodgates. Ann and her husband, Bob, have a blended family of six children and are proud grandparents of seven grandchildren.
Her seminar will look at overcoming past generational sin and pains of the past in the family and mending wounds to grow together towards the future as a family.
Kendall Shmitke will be speaking on Family of Discipleship. Kendall works as the Director of Church Relations at Empower Ministries, a parachurch ministry that supports church planting globally. Kendall founded Church Without Walls, a church planting network out of Owen Sound. He and his wife Tamara are the authors of Twice as Tight, a children's book about adoption born out of their journey adopting a young boy from China. He lives in Owen Sound with his wife Tamara and his 4 children, Lauren, Caitlyn, Rebecca, and Donovan.
His seminar will be looking at how we can be not only biological parents, but spiritual parents as well, and looking at how to be intentional about discipling our children. He will also be sharing about the journey of adopting a young boy from China and bringing him into their family. In particular, Kendall will be speaking on the importance of blessing our children and passing on our blessings to the next generation.
Pastor Paul Lucas will be speaking on Family of Truth. Paul Lucas is the Family Ministries Pastor here at Gentle Shepherd Community Church. He has an interest in Christian Apologetics and strengthening the faith of believers through the truths and evidences of God found in the world. He is currently working on his first book exploring the uniqueness of Christian love. He lives in Markdale with his wife Payge and his two children, CJ and Emylia.
His seminar will be looking at practical ways to share deep theological truths with children of all ages, and also looking at the importance of a truth foundation in the family.
